My husband had to wait most mornings because there weren’t enough chairs and then we had to go back wet to the room with no towels since you had to give them back. They give you a card to get a towel and make you give it back to get a new towel. If he hadn’t sent us a text we likely would’ve never seen him and we went back at all times of day. Also, we went to Amstar daily to find out our transport back and he was not there until the day we left. Why we couldn’t go straight to a new room I’ll never understand. ) They did say they had plenty of rooms and could change (but rolled their eyes and looked annoyed to be bothered) but that we would have a 3 hour gap the following day where essentially we would have to figure out what to do with our stuff, and we had brought our own bags to our rooms. They also weren’t happy with us that we wanted the paperwork to say out correct check in and check out dates when we were supposed to sign stating it was correct (but showed we were checking out 3 days earlier than we were so they were not correct and I didn’t feel comfortable signing a paper that our names and check in and out date where correct when they in fact were not. If your hoping for an anniversary upgrade (which their website says they do)… don’t count on it. We were returning guests, on our anniversary, and let you know we weren’t happy with the room. But seriously when you are at 70% capacity and have more rooms, putting people in a building that far away and backing up to construction isn’t necessary. Our phone didn’t work to call the front desk, the power went out and that includes the air so it was very hot that night. Cons: The room are very dated, 1 sink, no robes, fridge was hit or miss if it would work, wonky layout that made the closet basically unusable, anti theft hangers (who steals these that it’s necessary for this?), and our room back up to construction. Overall we would come back to this resort as a budget friendly option to relax at. Pros: food, foam party, multiple pools, activities, and all the animals (including Pancho the Dolce Vita cat! □). If Ocean Maya doesn’t make him a manager or trainer to show other people his ways, they are crazy because he’s awesome! Angel was also wonderful! He was fun and engaging and we really enjoyed his fun dancing and getting to know us. The entertainment staff is amazing! Kenddell has the most contagious positive energy of any human you will ever meet and is just such a kind person! He goes out of his way to try to make everyone’s day better and you can’t help but smile when he is going above and beyond to get everyone hyped up. They work as hard as they can to remove the seaweed which is really all they can do as the Cancun area is all dealing with this. The area is beautiful with tons of animals and palm trees. Also they really stepped it up with activities and shows from the last time we visited as well. The food was not as great as it was in 2014, but it’s still too notch when it comes to food compared to other resorts we’ve been to. One time for our honeymoon in 2014 and last week (August 2022). If you’re keen, you will never be bored. My husband and I have been to Ocean Maya Royal 2 times. There is no shortage of activities at OMR. We also went to Xplor (highly recommend) for a day and also over to Cozumel where we rented a scooter / vehicles and drove around the island. Beach volleyball, water volleyball, water aerobics & lazy games are just some of the activities we enjoyed during our stay. Was at the “party” pool most of the trip, though the quiet pool was nice. Don’t expect anything spectacular but it did the trick.īeaches were gorgeous, cenotes are so fun and worth the short 15 min beach walk. I did not partake in any other spa services (though I’m sure I was asked 100 times). I highly recommend their bridal services. The makeup/hair stylist (whose name escapes me) did an amazing job. We had many lunch buffets there and wish I had had dinner there more often as well. Their Eggs Benedict and fish tacos were amazing!! The Mexican restaurant was my other favourite. My favourite place to eat was the Privilege Lounge (thank you uncle for getting us an upgrade). We had minimal issues getting into the a la cartes, usually a bit of a wait unless you made a reservation for later. The food was delicious, though the buffet was just OK. Our group grew very fond of the entertainment team (special mention to Arturo and Marena) and made our trip extra special. Daniela was amazing at helping organize and coordinate our special day. We were married at OMR on the beach and the ceremony and reception were flawless. Our entire group (16 adults) was very pleased with the resort overall.
